The 6-foot-7 forward was limited in practice on Tuesday, but coach Fred Hoiberg said he hoped Gibson would be able to return.
Hoiberg wouldn’t speculate on when Gibson might be able return, but said Gibson is progressing.
The Bulls have lost seven of their last eight games, and Gibson has scored just one point in the last four.
The former first-round pick has averaged 3.9 points and 1.4 rebounds in his last nine games, though he shot only 3 of 10 in the second half against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday.
Injury updates:Bulls forward Taj Williams suffered a strained left hamstring in practice Tuesday.
He is expected to be out at least a week.
Gibson has played in five games with five starts, averaging 5.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in 21.9 minutes per game.
The team is 5-8 when Gibson is not on the floor.
