A new iOS feature called Night Shift could help developers deliver immersive video and audio experiences at night.
The feature lets developers turn on a flashlight on iOS 8, which is the iOS 8.3 beta version that Apple rolled out last week, to illuminate text and images on the lock screen when the screen is dark.
When the flashlight is on, iOS automatically turns off background lights when you lock the device, and it automatically dims background music and videos as you navigate through the lock-screen.
iOS 8 has already been out for some time, and the feature has only been available to developers in the Apple Developer Program.
To make Night Shift work with Night Shift, developers need to install an application called NightShift and then enable the feature in the Settings app.
To turn on Night Shift in iOS 8 on the iPhone XS, the developer needs to download and install NightShift for the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus.
When Night Shift is turned on, users can enable a number of different modes that are only available when the flashlight’s on.
These modes include: The “On” setting to turn off background music The “Off” setting for background music only The “Display” setting which hides the display and makes the display disappear for a period of timeThe “Background” mode which turns the display off when you don’t need itThe “Auto” setting, which will turn on or off the flashlight at the first light source when the device is onThe “Ambient” mode, which turns on or the display dims when the phone is offThe “Night” setting turns on the screen when you’re not looking at it and when it’s darkThe “Dark” setting makes the screen dim and turn off the display if the screen’s off and you’re still looking at the deviceThe “Show” setting dims the screen if you are looking at your phone while it’s onThe Night Shift feature is currently available only in the iOS developer program.
It’s not currently available in the iPhone app stores.
In addition, Night Shift will only work with the iPhone 7, 8, 8 Plus, and 9.
Developers will need to download a developer license for the app to be able to use it in their apps.
Night Shift works with apps that support the Night mode, like Night, Night Mode, and Night Time.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8+ have a 5.5-inch screen, and will ship with Night Mode enabled, which should make Night Mode an option in the future.
